If I was doing a mod (which I may or may not be), I would certainly do an Alpha. By all means take every suggestion with a pinch of salt, but letting people have a look at your stuff early on will do you sooooo much good. Hay, you never know, you could end up with a super awesome Avengers style team on this!

Hay, you never know, you could end up with a super awesome Avengers style team on this! "Modders! Assemble!" On a serious note, Industrial Craft 2 already has a super awesome team. Alblaka, Player, RichardG, and the rest have done an amazing job on IC2. The IC2 dev team is a great example of the advantages of collaboration. IC2 wouldn't be half the mod it is today if only Alblaka worked on it. That's not to say Alblaka is a bad coder. Alblaka is an amazing coer, but two heads are always better than one, or in this case, a half a dozen or so modders are better than one.

I think it is safe to say we are all very excited about the mod.

I think it is safe to say we are all very excited about the mod. You'll be happy to hear that most of the infrastructure for the forums has been set up, meaning I can get back to coding. I might post some of the class files later for you people to play around with if you want.

I sent you a PM to get in the mood for coding (over on the other forums) Mod Edit: He sent me a PM that contained "jokes" about programming. I was not amused.Awwww Not amused? Not even a little bit? Posting the class files would be awesome BTW.

I was amused a little bit. Bt not much. And I'll post the class files once I go through and add comments (I realized that to non-modders, the un-commented Forge Methods and Hooks would probably seems like an alien language). I'm gonna have to add comments eventually anyways if I make it open source, so adding them now saves time. If you recompile the class files, you could probably get it too run, but it would just be items and blocks with no function or crafting recipes.

So is this going to be like Kitty Jail or what? If it does, I'll have to move it to off-topic and rename it to General chit-chat.

So, end of the month deadline, you still looking to meet that or do you think it may run over?

So is this going to be like Kitty Jail or what? No, this is chit-chat'ing about the mod. Not a derailing, non-topic, nonsensical thread. If bride or any other wants to make that thread, go do it. When the mod gets out, I'm sure people will start chattering about "ohh I summoned a cat!", "I got killed when drinking a poisonous potion?", "how come that Earth Titan wont obey me?"... hence I made this thread. To stop people from making dozens of other threads about it, why not put it all here? Unless it is a serious bug, in which case they should make a thread in the bug section.

Just as a thought--what if I took the time to figure out Java coding and worked on a mod that integrated one or two other mods into MageCraft? See, I was thinking about the classical four elements and how one of my favorite mods, Metallurgy, could fit in there, when I remembered that the Chinese also had wood and metal as elements. I figure I can save wood for someone else to mess with, but working out the parts for a branch of elemental study into utilizing unique metals for arcane purposes (I intend to stick to the Fantasy series to begin with.) I would like to mess with MageCraft first, however, to get the feel and flavor of the main mod before I even start coming up with ideas.
Opinions?

Once I have a working version released, feel free to dig around in the source code if you like. The entire mod is open source, and I plan to get an API developed to make it easier for people to mod MageCraft.

That would be correct. I've been doing some hardcore coding today, and I've gotten quite a bit done. I'm probably gonna post a version on GitHub that is just the alchemy branch of the mod, so you guys can play around with it if you want to. (This will not be a compiled .zip file. It will be a .txt file containing the source code.) My iPad crashed earlier, so I lost about 2 to 3 hours work of copypasta, but I'm working on redoing it all.

I would love to take a look at some of your code.

I realized that it's a good thing I lost most of the code yesterday. One line survived due to an auto-save, and I started retyping all the code using that line as a guideline, when I realized I had made a syntax mistake. I fixed it, but If I hadn't had to redo the code, I might not have realized the mistake until latter. So that happened. I've recovered (read: redid) about half of the progress I lost yesterday. The reason it's taking me this long to redo 2 hours of code is simply that I don't have as much concentrated time to work on the code (2 1 hour chunks of time are less efficient than 1 2 hour chunk of time.)

Well then, there is the silver lining! Glad you have managed to redo some of your work. That is another reason a Github would be a good idea, a bunch of people looking at your code are much more likely to see errors/unnecessary code.

I'm just trying to figure out the best way to commit files to GitHub from my iPad (the only working GitHub app that I can find costs 8 dollars.)
